Do I Need To Keep Silverlight?

I only have a 500gb hard drive in my laptop and it is getting dangerously close to full. I am trying to slim it back a bit and I see that silverlight takes up quite a chunk. Do I need to keep it? I am not aware of using it, unless it does its stuff in the background.

Any other suggestions on how to create more space on the hard drive? I want to start using it for music production using an external/usb audio interface so I'm guessing it will fill up pretty quick.

    regards

    Sandy

    Hi

Its around 140MB+/- is size and whether to keep or uninstall Sliverlight depends on if you visit any websites that use that media for video and website controls or not, you can uninstall but if a website needs it and you have to re-install you are back to were you are now.

    Options
    1. Review other applications you have and do you use them a lot (any you have not used in 6 months+), if not uninstall and make sure you have any licence keys saved.
    2. Run the likes of CCleaner to clear up any junk files and temps (this can save a fair bit of space) also run Disk Cleanup
    3. Buy a portable USB hard drive and move the likes of pictures, video, documents to that, this will save some space on the main drive and allow you to create your music on the main drive then moved finished creations to a portable drive.
    4. Use online cloud space to save some pictures and docs and a few are Google Drive, OneDrive

Could update main HDD to a larger on but I feel the portable route is good for music media for saving finished works, as you can just get another when the drive is full again and so on.

I have an old desktop pc that I used to use but it was horrendous for freezing up. I'm not sure whether it's worth putting more ram into it. It only has 512k currently. Its runs on XP SP3 with a pentium 4 cpu running at 2.67ghz. I put a decent delta sound card in it so it would be a shame to waste that. Any thoughts on whether it's worth trying to salvage the old dog? I'm not even sure if there is another slot on the mobo for more ram! It's a very old version of cubase thats on it too (sx2)

You could also run Disk Cleanup choosing to clean up System files. It could save another 2 GB or so.

The simplest way to find out how many RAM slots it has and what the maximum RAM it could take (maybe up to 2gb) is to scan it at the crucial.com memory scanner site:
    http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en
It will also tell you exactly what type/specification of RAM you need.
You don't need to buy the suggested ones sold by Crucial themselves, just do a search at all suppliers online for the RAM type.
If you are able to upgrade it to 2gb you will be surprised how much faster it would be.

I scanned with crucial.com but it says there is no compatible memory available. I'll bench the desktop pc and use the laptop. I have more memory on the way for it.

    Thanks for the help folks.
