Do I really need this update?

    After installing SP3 on my Windows XP Home computer, Windows has a long list of updates that I supposedly need. I let it install several, but there is one that I need to know if I really need . It is KB951847. It is .Net Framework3.5 Service Pack 1 and .Net Framework 3.5 Family Update. Since I have SP 2 and 3, do I need this. It is a very long download. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    As far as i know, .Net Framework of newer versions may be required by some third-party applications. If you don't use such applications, in general, you don't need this update.

    But i think that it's better to install all microsoft updates, because they are often security-related.

    .Net 3.5 builds on 2.0 and 3.0, here is the new technologies it supports, used mostly by business and web developers.

    Like any big update it is causing some problems like this google shows. Haven't installed it because I don't use what it is for.

    So far I do not have NET 2 nor NET 3 installed and haven't had problems.
    I made sure that NET 1 was patched when anything was offered.
