do i really need to meet the minimum specs for my dvd burner

i just bought a LG 16x super multi dvd-writer model: GSA-4160B .
it says the system requirements need a pentium4 2.4GHz and 512mb of ram.
will this drive still work with my computer. I have:
P4 1.5 Ghz
512mb ram
samsung 40 gig hard 5400rpm
windows xp pro

 

I was looking at LG web didnt see anything about system reguirements.
You own it try it a see, I'll bet it works.

Other options return it or upgrade CPU if mobo supports such.

 

i do beleave it will work i bought a new 52x32x52x cd-rw and its req's was 1ghz and so on but i used it for about a year in a gateway2000 E-300 166mhz and it worked just fine so try it but i bet it will work

 

It should work. you just have to be careful not to do a bunch of other things when using it to write stuff. It could cause certain problems when writing and waste some of the discs. There just trying to cover their ass. Some people will try to burn a DVD well playing musis in the background and running HL2, or something stupid. So long as you don't attempt to upset it by doing something stupid like that it shouldn't be an issue.

 

Barring any existing conflicts or a lot of programs running in the background it will work fine. Worst is that you might get some lag on dvd playback but nothing major install and enjoy.

 

hey thanks everyone for your two cents on my question. I went ahead and installed the dvd burner and you know what it works great. So you really dont need the minimum system specs for everything after all.
