Do not have Wirless network tab on...

the wireless network connection box. Running XP Professional version 2002 svc pack 1. Also, for some reason I've tried to update the service packs, but it fails.

I'm on a copaqu laptop. The hard drive was given to me preloaded from a company. I can connect with other wirelesses available signals. I'm trying to connect to another wireless system and the directions say I have to go to my connections, then wireless conection status and when I choose properties a box appears titled wireless conection properties. It looks like there's suppose to have 3 tabs, General, advanced and wirelss networks. I do not have wireless networks.

You'll only see two tabs ,ie general and advanced, in your wireless connection properties if the WirelessZeroConfigeration service is not enabled.

bear in mind that some laptops/wifi adaptors have their own software that can disable the WZC service and you'll have to use their software to configure it. otherwise
START>RUN> services.msc |OK|

scroll down to the wirelesszeroCon..
double click on it , select startup type automatic, apply then press start..
reopen the properties and you'll see the wireless networks tab.
click it and check "use windows to configure my wireless network"

also check the security key type for the network.
some adaptors/ and from mem. XP < have problems with a WPA key

 

Possibly need to remove SP2 even if it failed to install - http://support.microsoft.com/KB/875350
Obtain SP2 or SP3 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389
