Do you always need to save zip downloads to temp files?

Discussion in 'Software' started by conceptualclarity, Jun 3, 2013.

  1. Last week I downloaded a program whose website warned it must be saved to a temp file or not all of the components will be obtained. Is this a general danger with zipped programs that give no such warning, or is it generally safe to save them to your desktop?

You can save a downloaded zip file absolutely anywhere you like, though a subfolder in Downloads is always a good choice. It's where you extract the zipped files to that's important, and that's where a temp file is best. Sure you didn't misread it?

You do not even need to save it at all; if you have a program like WinZip or 7-Zip installed, you can open it directly in there, and unzip the contents to anywhere you want.
