Do you like the new chatbox?

Do you like the new chatbox? I kinda do

 

look as though not everybody is o keen.
i find it good especially on the full page version.

Maybe, but I prefer it to be completely hidden when clicking on the far right arrow, not just hiding the entry line. Bug maybe? This "Hide" feature works on the other items on the main forum page.

 

It was a bit of a shock when I logged in this morning but I like the new layout

 

Kestrel - if you go to User CP /Edit Options (or Quick Links/Edit Options) at the bottom of the page is where you can store your personal settings for the chatbox which includes the default color.

 

I must admit I am not a "Shoutbox" fan somehow the word "Drivel" always comes to mind, that said I still do not like the "Open Box" on the main page. Means I have to actually scroll down every time I go to the main Page. For what its worth that's this "Old Fart's" opinion

 

I'm of the opinion that a little scrolling never killed anyone...but to each their own. For those that don't like it, don't hang out on the front page

 

I personally prefer it when people stick to the original colour in the shoutbox anyway, some of the other colours are extremely annoying (especially pink)
... but to each their own.

 

Just wait Adrynalyne, one day too you will be an "Old Fart" like me...........As to "Hanging Out" on the front page, that is were I return, to see which forums have had new postings, and now I have that "Open" box at the :mad top...............but Hey I will survive I Think

 

I already liked it as it was much cleaner looking than the old one and with Ma's todo list it should be great!

New chatbox is very :cool
Things that stay the same and are comfortable: become boring
Pleasing to see that there are lots of new ideas coming into force and I am sure it will be more manageable for the moderators too

It is back in its box today, I like that. I don't know what Help is for yet, but I am sure something will go in there. You can view it even if not on the MajorGeeks Support Forums page. Over all it is good, maybe an option to block shouters if it gets busy. Would need the list of shouters back to do that I would guess. Oh, sorry, disregard, it's starting to sound like an AOL chat room....

I have never used the chatbox, I have no interest in using the chatbox, and I couldn't care less if we had one or not. At least, that used to be true, when I could close it and not deal with scrolling past it.

But with the new one...it cannot be closed, plus it add yet another section to the forums main page with the "best shouters" or whatever the hell that is. Thus more scrolling, thus more irritation.

Personally, I'd like to see it as one of the links at the top that people could choose to look at if they want to, but the rest of us don't have to deal with it at all.

I see the comment "why would you hang out on the main page?" Well...that's the first page of the forums. I like to look and see which forums have new posts, but don't necessarily want to look at ALL the new posts since my last visit, since I'm seldom here daily any more and it's too many. I hate having to scroll past something I don't want, and I totally agree with whoever earlier said "drivel".

 

The height of laziness is when a minute amount of extra scrolling becomes tiresome enough to complain about.

Well, if you browse the main page(s) before you log-in, you don't have to look at the S.B. at all, if one is adverse to seeing it. Pretty simple, really.

It might be a "minute amount of extra scrolling", but every little bit adds up to become too much after a while. You've heard the phrase "the straw that broke the camel's back", no?

 

I like the chatbox very much, expecially it being called a chatbox rather than a shout box. I would like it even better if it were at the bottom of the page rather than the top of the page, because this is a forum and not a chatbox.
