In the near future, do you think helping people with spyware will be a job all on its own. I'm not refering to general support, I mean a whole other job devoted to helping people with spyware problems. With the rise of spyware, I think it might happen soon.

I put an ad in the local small town newspaper offering to help people with just this sort of thing and I got three calls right away. If I wanted to, I am pretty sure I could make a full time business out of just doing this. For now, it is a great part time business.

I'm talking about being a professional at this stuff, like going to places and getting trained on how to prevent and help people prevent and get rid of the stuff.

I doubt spyware by itself will be a professional specialty. I see it as one facet of computer security in general, with virus/trojan/adware/spyware/network security issues.

Net security IS becoming a specialty, but spyware is just one facet of it.

????? ... that's like saying "Yea, my son was an extortionist working for John Gotti:cool:"

if she makes lots of money I can only hope the people who get rid of it(makers of adaware etc) are rich beyond their wildest dreams :)

Yes, my sister just sent her machine out, to get cleaned up. There are many people out there that just don't have the time nor the interest, to deal with spyware problems. It's up for grabs for anyone that's interested.

p.s. I think she paid $50.00 and had to bring the machine in. House calls are probably more expensive.

Well it must already be a full time job because look at all the programs that are out there already that are just for spyware!! People are getting paid to make it and people are getting paid to clean it up. I repair computers at where I work and 90% of the computers that are in there are there because of some sort of spyware or something to the likes! So take out the other 10% and I'm still plenty busy fixing computers....full time....and get paid!

It is a job in that it presents a risk to corporate security. Just like most anything in the computer industry, the job is one of many hats a computer specialist has to wear. And like a mechanic who fixes flats, its not their only responsibility.

It will always be part of the pc techs job. Cleaning up the adware, spyware, viruses, hijacking software.. etc is like 90% of my job now.

sure you can do it full time, but i doubt you'll be able to feed your family just by doing that. It is already then number one task to maintain a computer. but the tools are free and simple enough that you won't be able to support a proper lifestyle just by cleaning spyware. side job with a little extra cash each month, though...
