The small business I work for would like a sheet fed scanner that can scann at least 15 to 20+ PPM. Color is not necessary, we only want to scan black and white documents.
I've searched & searched, but all I come up with is scanners costing $3,000-$25,000+ that can scan 75+ PPM. Thats quite a bit over our budget... Any ideas?

Anyways, the reason bieng, we have about 20 or so boxes full of documents that is taking up about 95% of our storage space. I would like to scan them all and turn that closet full of boxes & files into a couple of burnt CD-Rs.

    Thanks.

Thanks! I just came across this:
    http://www.visioneer.com/Products/sheetfed/xp450/home.asp
It's a bit slower (20PPM), but considerably cheaper as well. Plus it's USB 2.0.

Here's exactly what we would like if anyone else is willing to search, or just happens to know a product like this:

Color: Black & White only (no sense in paying for color when we're only scanning documents)
Sheet Fed: Hoold at least 50 pages
    Paper: Up to legal size
    TWAIN and Certified ISIS Drivers
    Scans directly to PDF
    Reliable

    Text Imaging Scanner

20 Boxes is very low volume.
What type of documents are they?
Do the documents consist of multiple paper types?
Are they of different textures, sizes and thickness?
    Simplex or duplex?

If it's for a business, there are legal requirements that come into play relative to
backups and your ability to reproduce the images in paper for customers or clients upon request.

If you're serious about recommending the purchase of a document scanner,
sheet feed (only) scanners are a waste of money for small quantity.
The maintenance frequencies are high and repair and replacement costs are very expensive.
You're much better off with a sheetfeed with flatbed if you're doing low volume.

Documents have to pass between pressure rollers and the image sensor glass.
If you miss one staple it will scratch the glass.
That causes streaks and shadows on the documents.
With most document sheet feed scanners, you cannot replace just the glass, you have to replace the entire unit which comprises of image sensors. Believe me,, it's VERY expensive.

You'll also have to consider the expense for scanning software and indexing software.
Kodak makes the best document scanners.
I've used higher end Panasonic and Fujitsu document scanners and they have been very problematic.

The alternative would be to hire a firm that does that.
Woud probably cost a lot less in the long run and
ensure that regulations pertaining to imaged documents,
copywright issues, ability to migrate and preserve the data
when technology advances and backups procedures are followed.
OR you could consider a short term lease...!

Lexmark has a Scanner,Copier,Printer and Fax for less than 150.00. The reviews were good with the exception of the photo scanning. It is equipt with an ADF.
