Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows of, or knows where a friend of mine can find out who owns a mobile/cell phone number, as a friend of mine here in the UK has just recieved a rather nasty txt from someone stating that they are going to tell her new partner that she's been cheating on him, which has really upset her as she has only just started the relationship, and now she has tried to call the number back the person just happens to have switched there phone off, if anyone can point me in the right direction i can try and help her out, she is devastated, this is obviously someone just out to cause malicious uncalled for trouble !

Any help would be appreciated ! THANKS !

Well, to start, I would tell your friend to show the text to her new partner. That right there would negate anything (unless it's true that is). If she keeps getting them, she should call her phone provider and find out a course of action. Maybe she can put a block on the number.

Yeah best thing would be to show the new partner the txt. It could just be a friend or that friend partner friend... or ex of some sort using a different phone to txt(so you wont be able to know who). Also another way is call the phone place and they can give you the number who called plus name... but you should tell them this day and time that it happen.. so it narrows list down!

    Hi RJ

Agreed with Laura and Silas on this, be upfront with new partner on this, hiding it will only make it worse in the future.

Also dont enguage with this person and call them up I would have her seek police advise on this the local station officer will be able to give advise on this but also contact her mobile provider and as many (mine is O2) have nuisance call departments that can handle this, also dont delete the txt message as its proof.

Me and Amanda have been getting calls like that but the numbers been blocked and they don't speak a word just breath heavy into the phone and she has gotten texts from someone claiming to be me saying some rather nasty things about her. And they were sent from the Verizon website (I guess) they even put <snip> as the return address! I tried to call Verizon to get the info and i was told i needed a court order to get the IP so i was working on that and a week past and i called them again to get some more info about what i needed and at that point i was told they only keep records for 7days and after that they are deleted when the first person did not say anything about that...... At first she would not believe me but if you look at it there are somethings typed that i never type like they put "U" when i say "you" or "UR" rather than "your or You are" as i type.. So what i am getting at look at the texts and see how they are written and that may tell you who done it.

Hi there and thanks for the positive outcomes of all your answers to this, will inform my friend , and never thought to say to her that she should show her new partner which stops any badness in his thoughts towards her in the future and proves she's being 100% honest with him , and also what was said about keeping the txt as proof, as there's nothing better than to have something in black and white as the saying goes.Yet again a very big thankyou to all and i will tell her everything that you have mentioned ! ;)

Hey NJ, I have the perfect cure for your situation...They are blocking their numbers.. Well.. There are ways, then there are ways..... First off, call your local police dept, and make out a complaint for these calls.. Then, call your phone company and inform them of what is going on, and inform them that you have talked to police and made a report. The phone company, WILL put a tracer on your phone.. They WILL find out who it is, and take proper action. All you have to do, is contact the police and the phone company. The phone company, CAN and WILL get that number and name.. They will not give it to you, but they will give it to the police that you contact... If you have an answering machine, record any of those calls, and OH YES, keep a record. Write down each call, what date and what time.. You will be glad you did... Good Luck, and when the Police get the info from the Phone company, they will let you know who it was ;)
