... make a multi-function device (printer, scanner, copier, etc.) with expanding hinges on scanner lid to allow copying of thick items, like book covers, hardware devices, etc. Even something that only hinged an extra quarter inch (6mm, or so) would be very helpful. Bazza

I have a Canon Pixma MP160 that can hold about a 2cm or 3/4 inch thick book. They probably have other models with the same feature.

I have an epson RX all-in-one and the lid is hinged so that I can lay at least a one inch thick book to scan and the lid lays flat on it. I believe most of the epson RX series have this feature. Might check out your local tech store if you're near to one

    Thanks folks for the info.:major

I checked out my cheapskate HP MFD with the thought of making my own extendable hinges but their design prohibits that. :(

I also need a Torx screw driver to pull the lid off and see what lies underneath. :cry I might then be still able to make hinges to allow thicker articles to be copied. Bazza
