I am switching over to a newer system. For security reasons I want to download my online things to my older computer; the one I am using, before going on the new system. I have been trying to download my emails for two full days. On my primary email I got everything downloaded, luckily, because now it won't download. Says there are time outs, error Ox800CCC19. As most on here know, I am not at all technical. I don't know what any of that means. I cannot download anything from my non-primary email service, which is gmail. Gmail has a million bells and whistles and its basic stuff doesn't work well; for me, at least. I was going to forward my many very important emails on gmail to my primary email service, but it seems you cannot do a mass forward on gmail. And now my primary service doesn't work anyway. I tried both imap and the pop3/smtp thing to know avail. Tried over and over. Gmail's "help" was a post from someone telling me how to download to an app, tho I'd never mentioned apps. Finally downloaded something called "Mailstore" for home users because gmail has this thing where you can archive stuff, which also didn't work, but Mailstore is supposed to make it work. Mailstore failed to archive and download from gmail. Said it could not contact the server, and would I please sign in to gmail, which I was already signed into but did so again, to no avail. Mailstore was able to sign in to my primary, but if that works , I will have to go thru over a hundred emails and forward them to my primary one by one. I hope someone can help me with these problems.

I couldn't follow that much at all. Do you operate your Gmail email online (ie via a web browser) or do you use a Mail Program, eg Thunderbird or something similar?

I have a gmail account and it is accessible from any computer just by signing in. So I guess the question is why are you wanting to download it? If you access you gmail account you can forward your email to any other email account from there.

katkat, I want to download it because I want to close the account. You cannot do a mass forward of gmail. I have to go thru over a hundred emails and open and then forward each one individually. I hope someone will help me with this.

I use gmail online, and want to download the emails to either outlook or outlook express. I followed their download instructions and it just didn't work. As well, if you try to forward the emails to a different account and then download, you cannot. Strangely, there is no way to mass forward. You have to open each email individually, then forward. I have over a hundred emails, and I don't have that kind of time.

    Watch this

    1. In the address bar of your browser, type in myaccount.google.com (be sure you are signed in to gmail before you do this)
    2. Click on personal info and privacy
    3. In the left pane, click on Control Your Content
    4. Click on Create Archive (be sure your computer has enough storage space for the data you will be downloading
    5. Remove the green checkmarks from everything but mail (the green checks turn into gray Xes)
    6. Click Next
    7. Keep the 2 default items zip and send download link via email

Why complicate life by closing the account? If those messages are so important, the last thing you should do is close the account as you are closing a permanent cloud storage of them. Download them by all means, (leaving them on the gmail server) - and it works just fine, you just haven't managed it for some reason.
You're just making work for yourself when you say you have little time.
