Does anyone know a software that will let me manage my time efficiently

  1. Like a program that you can schedule a shutdown on or hibernation on. I want this program so that I can stay on task, sometimes I'm lazy to shut the computer down or I forget and I loose track of time...then I don't get the work finished. I want a program that can help me manage my time by shutting down the computer at specific times, does anybody know?(Or hibernate)

    Chronometask might do the trick here; as it is probably one of the simplest 'timer/stopwatch' type of tools I have ever tested. ;)

    It's a timer with an easy-to-use countdown timer that can sound an audible alarm, show a message, and run a program or shutdown/restart your system after the specified countdown has elapsed. The developer, Alex Nolan actually created it initially; because he wanted to have a simple oven timer on his computer. The program can perform a system task after a specified amount of time, as well. The task could be shutting down Windows or rebooting, launching or closing a program. Chronometask can be also used as a very 'basic timer' that will sound an alarm or display a message when the time has run out. The program also includes a very basic 'stopwatch' function that; when activated; you can use for timing a specific task.

    The default 'audible alarm' sounds for just 5 seconds. There is an additional sub options to play a .wav sound file of your choice. "Show message" will allow the program to display any text message the user types into the box. When the time is up; it can also execute a program as well; displaying a message, and sound an audible alarm or even shutdown Windows or reboot. The time can be repeated in a loop; so that a task can be performed hourly, for example. In order to set the timer; the 'Set Timer' function window allows users to set the exact hours, minutes and seconds you want to start the timer from. It is also compatible with 64-bit systems. Unfortunately, this program is not available here at Major Geeks; however you can read more about it and downloaded from the developer's site here: Chronometask - Countdown Timer

    Important Side Note: This tool might be a good choice and it's fairly easy to use; but make sure you check out the site first (and save it to your favorite’s folder, etc.) in order to get the most out of using it.

  4. Thank you guys! This is very helpful because I tend to get distracted when using the computer, so time flies by and I don't get work done. Thanks!!!!!

  5. Nevermind can someone get me another program? I can't cope with the stopwatch because I always have to reset it and stuff.
    Anyone got a program that schedules shutdown/etcs for your comp so you stay on task when needed to?

    You might try using the SDS (Shutdown Scheduler)

    "SDS (Shutdown Scheduler) is a utility that allows the user to automate shutting the system down or closing specified applications. It is also able to break a modem connection, restart or hibernate the system or even put it to standby mode." Many options make the program highly customizable for your particular needs, for example, conditions under which the program will perform specified actions:

    * at given time,
    * after specified period elapses,
    * after the computer is idle for specified amount of time,
    * when specified application is closed.

    "You can even combine the conditions and whichever occurs first, triggers the action. Despite the number of options, the program is really easy to use."

    Side Note: Although I have not yet tested this program; since it is listed here at MajorGeeks, it must be pretty good. ;)

    Ok I'll bite...

    But what Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

    But roughly what you need is to look at one of the posts in the other thread LauraR linked back to and try the netset command and see if that works for you.

    if not then and I do not know what Windows version you are using but you could look into using Parental Controls that some Windows versions have as these allow you to set specific logon times and days that you can only use the computer for, but you will need to setup a new basic user account that you use daily, then add the controls to that account.

    Full features and video useage HERE

    Have a friend change your admin account password and not tell you (do have them choose a password they will remember or write down and hide) what it is so you are not tempted to change the parental controls or just login the admin account.

    BUT you need to try out what others post for you and feedback to them if its what you need or not, otherwise people who actually give their free time to help others will get bored and move on, plus continuely posting "help me" will annoy the hell out of me and have a thread closed, as you need to give people time to work out a solution for you.
