I get a popup screen at startup that says "cannot find file:/// please check that the file name and path are correct." Supposedly this is coming from Internet Explorer. I've tried all of the malware and antivirus software scans; They all come up clean. I was told it was caused by hpprintspool.exe in the registry, so I deleted all instances from everywhere it showed up. I still get the same notice on start up. If I click on it it goes away until I reboot, but is annoying and indicates to me there is a problem somewhere.

not much info to go on here but have you tried to run the error check function to find and fix any errors that may be causing this issue that's presuming you are running xp or vista.you may have to do a repair install of your printer software that may be causing the issue also.

Yes, I guess I'm too close to the subject and think everyone sees the same thing I do. the OS is XP SP3. There is an Epson printer hooked up to the computer, so I don;t think the hpprintspool.exe is from and HP application. I Googled this and there are pages of people looking for solutions to this same issue, some with other problems in addition to the screen that I get. One of the suggested solutions was to eliminate the hpprintspool reference using Hijack this, but there is no reference in "run" on this computer. I can't think of anything else useful, just wondered if anyone had run across this issue and knew of a fix.

Oops, I see you are aware of the R&R. No need for me to have posted in bold - and have you take your time :-D
You should post all the logs anyway. Should be a quick fix from what I've seen on the net.
    Cheers..

OK,this is no doubt the right path to take, but I don't have the machine at my current location. I'll post the logs on the malware forum as soon as I can sit down in front of the computer. Thanks for reading my thread.
