i just got slackware 10.0 from a friend. and i had it all set up, but when i turned this morning, it checked my file system. when it got done checking that, it rebooted. but thats not a big deal, because it usually does that. the only thing i have a problem with is that it does it every time i boot now. i cant even get into the console prompt because it checks the disks now, and says that the filesystem has errors. i think it may have been because my brother saw my console once and he thought my computer was screwed up so he hit the reset button. i think that may have caused it. anyway, if anyone here knows about linux, than please help. im stuck right now and my website's down because i cant get into linux.

I am not familiar with Slackware, since I don't use it (Fedora Core 3, CentOS4).

Your kernal may be damaged, and if that is the case you have to boot from disk and compile a new kernal. And that is something I have never done.

When your brother hit the reset button to turn the computer off, that is a Bad Thing in linux.

In linux, the user should use a proper shutdown command,
    such as

    Code:
    /sbin/shutdown -h now
That way, the buffers can get flushed, and stuff is written to the
hard drive nicely. It is important.

If the machine is shutdown improperly, then fsck will happen the next boot. You said:

What do you mean, usually does __what__? If you mean usually reboots on start up, that is unusual.

I will look to see if I can find something to help you.

how you would fix this would depend on whether or not you can get a prompt to login with.

You said that you certainly cannot log in, so, in that case you can boot from a rescue disk, and run fsck on the hard drive partitions to repair them.

I believe the slackware disk itself (the install disk) can be used as a repair disk, if no other one is available.
