Microsoft developed the Xenix operating system over 20 years ago. Xenix was later sold to SCO. I have a special project where I need to get a copy of Xenix and make it work. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of Xenix and what hardware I need to make it work?

    thanks, Peter

How do I make that work? Isn't a tar file a tape archive file for Unix?
Do I download that using a Unix machine? Any ideas what I'm supposed to do next?

Boot up a live linux distro and download the tar file.
Since the tar has the extension gz, you would untar it using this command
    tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz

In the above x means extract, v means verbose, z means uncompress and f means file.

Probably wise after it is uncompressed to burn it to a CD (I have no idea about the size so maybe it won't fit). Look for K3b or gnomebaker in the distro you fire up. Those should be able to burn the directory to a CD.

I have access to a lab with SUSE linux running on a Dell machine. Will that work? Also, does anyone know what type of hardware I need? Does Xenix only work on 286's, 386's etc? I have a storage unit full of old junk so I can find anything I need if I know what to look for.
