does cpu come with...?

    when you buy a retail cpu does it come with an os?
    How about with a barebones system?

    lol...no. it comes with a heatsink and fan, and a 3 year warranty.

    usually bare bone systems don't come with a hardrive so evidently there would be no place to put the OS and it is unlikely that a store selling barebones systems will give you the disk for windows because the windows disk alone costs $200 so they usually sell it seperately.

    If you are looking for a whole pre-built computer, check out Dell. Decent computers, good tech support, not terribly proprietary, and a good price to boot.

    I agree with Earp, Dell is a good place to start if thats what you want.

    If you want to build your own, than get ready to spend the money and buy an OS. Doesn't have to be Windows....... :)

    Also could be free, depending on the OS. I would choose Windows though, unless you want to buy a Macintosh....OK I am babbling.
