Donn't trust my brother!

Hi! my brother just gave me his computer for my kids to use and It's not that he is a wild kid but I want to make 100% sure that all,if any,offensive material,sites,vids,pictures etc are erased. How can i get this back to how it was delivered to him from the factory. He has Microsoft office and some other programs on it. Is there any way to save them or do i have to reinstall them. thank you.

 

I'm not aware of a way to take the computer back to factory specs and still keep the programs installed afterwards.

you can do a search of video and picture files and delete them individually. I guess if you check back maybe someone else has a better suggestion

 

Thanks Buggabear. How about going back to to how it was out of the box and then I reinstall the programs? Is there a program that erases files in programs but still keeps the basic program. Thans again.

 

If you go back to the way it was out of the box, the initial programs that came with the computer will be there, anything else you will have to locate and install yourself..
To be clear there are 2 ways to do this that will put the computer back to out of the box state.
1. is the recovery partition that hopefully is already on your computer
2. is if you have a factory restore disk that came with your system.
Both restore the computer to the way it was purchased with all the programs and drivers that came with it.

If you get your own xp disk or vista disk then you will only have what comes standard on those disk. And any aftermarket programs will have to be purchased and installed separately
