In China, sweeping out your house is thought to remove all the good luck. :D

In South Africa, not sweeping your house means you're a lazy & dirty person. :D

Then Bob I have no luck left. I agree with Eldon, to not sweep means the floor is dirty.
Laura I would like to have one also but the cat hides under the bed when the vacuum is run. I think we might never see the cat again.:(

    Sorry katkat.
Fortunately you didn't hear me. o_O I couldn't help laughing! The katkat's cat hiding!
My friend's cats are the same. They scatter and hide when she uses the vacuum cleaner. And my other friend's dogs go crazy when there's thunder.
Last week, I had to look after this great lady because of the thunder & lightning.

My Grandmother and older Aunts called the vacuum cleaner a vacuum sweeper. So they would say they were sweeping the floor.

    Lol that is funny
My grandmother (when she was alive) always called the vacuum cleaner the Hoover even though she never owned one as she had only ever had Electrolux vacuum cleaners o_O
So she used to say she was doing the Hoovering...... must be an old folks thing:oops:

    That's actually a better description.
Every vacuum cleaner we have owned, had bristles on the 'broom' part for sweeping and vacuuming wooden and tiled floors.
I think that comes from the UK.
Just looked up vacuuming in WordWeb... the only given synonym is hoovering!

katkat's cat is a scaredy cat!;)

Never heard the term hoovering before.:)

I have a battery charged Swiffer vacuum I use in the kitchen every day to sweep up crumbs of dry cat food, so I don't need to drag out the big vacuum. Technically I could say I sweep or vacuum the floor everyday. Wish I had of had the thing when the kids were little.;)

We had a black cat with feet like that. His name was "Mr. Four Socks." Have an offspring of his still around. Same 4 socks. He is "Junior"

Oh, and I do sweep around my computer desk!

A few friends have one of those…I can only see their use if the floor layout suits…one friend has a strange set up to accommodate the roboto_Oand then the dust bag needs constant emptying because it is too small for the area being vacuumed:rolleyes::D

If I happen to be using someone else’s workstation computer, I quietly get out my “hand wipes” to clean the keyboard before using it…amazing how dirty these get:eek:

My friend’s cat likes riding the darn thing while the dog cowers when it is operating:D (I still reckon cats rule!)

    Ditto.

I use a “handy vac” for daily use and then when doing weekly vacuum I change heads between carpet and tiles. I use a broom outside, but not inside as they tend to throw a lot of dust around.

Good thing the entire world isn't China. LOL.

I use a broom outside, in the porch and use a vacuum before and a mop to clean the entire living room and kitchen area. We don't have carpets, just tiles.
