Don't know where to ask for help

Hello folks, just a clueless newbie saying hi. I found this site in a Google search looking for help fixing up my old (new to me) Compaq Armada E500. I followed a link to a thread about replacing the RTC (clock) battery, and was so impressed that I registered to ask for help [re]building the main battery. It is the Compaq 159529-001. I need the pin-out and/or schematics (and the specs) so that I can replace the guts with a gang of NiCads/NiHms to produce the appropiate voltage and amp hours. Right now all I have to get online is a BlackBerry and I need to do something to make the laptop portable so I can take it to the library and use their WiFi. The homemade battery only has to last an hour or two as I plug it into the wall at home. Any help would be appreciated. (Oh, btw a new battery is beyond my finances these days, but I already own several NiCad and NiHm AAs.)
