Doom 3

Is Doom 3 good enough to buy? Ive heard this game was good but not really sure....Also is the multiplayer online good??

I think it's worth buying.

Not as good as Far Cry or Half Life 2, but still a pretty good game.

Great fun in the dark with surround speakers!

 

I picked it up awhile back when it was onsale for $20 bucks. Its worth it at that price for sure. Now I'm debating the expansion pack, probably just hold out for Quake 4.

Yes, it has multiplayer, but I've never used it so I can't offer any feedback.

I'm the same way. Stressful games just don't do it for me...

If Doom3 is that way, I'll probably never pick it up.

Lol, I might get it one day, I'm still into Battlefield 2 at the mo, that's a great multiplayer game.

 

The game definitely raised the hair on the back of my neck a few times. I haven't finished yet due to lack of time and its getting to be a bit repetitive (dark and things jumping at ya. Have not played online yet.

 

The original Doom3 release didn't even have lights on the guns, so you were in absolute darkness.

To the companies credit, they rectified that, but it's still dark and very, very spooky.

There aren't many games that scare me, but this game is like starring in a horror movie.

Great use of sound effects, but not the same involving storyline like Far Cry or Half Life 2.

 

I know I'm wanting to buy Doom 3 since I'm a fan of the others. At least I built a faster computer at home so that I can play this (not the real reason, but a P4 3.0 Ghz is better than a P3 1.0 Ghz). I know I can buy the game and the expansion pack for the same price at Microcenter which is $20.

Although, I'm not sure when I'm going to get this yet. Perhaps this weekend.

 

I've just finished playing Doom 3, and I didn't like the ending.

I won't spoil it for others, but I'm still glad I bought it and would do so again.

Not one to buy though if you have heart problems. Some parts make you jump out of your chair!

 

I took a break from it for awhile... this Thread plus Quake 4 now out (and Battle Front 2 and COD2 coming soon) has me wanting to finish it. I'm in the Caverns now, so I figure I gotta be close.

 

There are a few mods which allow you to use the flashlight and a weapon at the same time. One is called the duck-tape mod, the joke being that in the future they can't figure out how to add a flashlight to a weapon (like have now) or find duck tape. Check out PlanetDoom for the mods.

 

I'll remember if I have problems with the sound after getting the game, I will know what to do.

Oh and as for the heart problems Insominac was talking about, I do have high blood pressure, but I don't think that's going to stop me.

 

The game is unplayable without the mod for the flashlight.

As stated, there are heaps of mods so that the gun has a light, otherwise you don't stand a chance in absolute darkness!

Mech Commander 2 might be one game you would want you would have check amazon.com for it or check the web because it's about 4 or 5 years old.

Its THE horror game! I myself get alot of angst when I play it, but that just shows you have freaky the game itself is!

Now, of course, the game does get a little repitative. Quietness-eerie sounds-HUGE MONSTER-JUMP OUT OF YOUR SEAT and repeat, but seriously, this is a GREAT game! I even bought the special edition D00M3 for xbox!

I use some mods after I beat it, like the flashlight on gun mod. (you can have the batman sign, a hello kitty face as your flashlight!) And also, since the game has multiplayer, (not co-op) you have to find a mod so you can play co-op since the deathmatch gets tiresome. But trust me, D00M3 is FUN when you and a mate run screaming down the hall from a Pinky monster!

Why dont you download the demo and try it out for yourself?

I have to rate this game an 8 of 10. (+scary as a mofo, -repetitive and no co-op built in)

I do own Halflife 2 (KILLER GAME) and Quake4, but those are different genras.
I also have ALL the RE series games for both Nintendo + Pc.

D00M 3 beats any other game when it comes to angst factor and being freaky!

 

I been hearing Doom 3 makes you jumpy which doesnt bother me But how is Quake 4 compared too Doom 3?

Quake 4 kicks cyber a$$ and I'm not joking. I didnt get freaked out as much in Q4 as I did in D3, but I jumped a crap load of times watching HUGE monsters trying to kill me.

The single player is really good, some downsides though. And the MP has suffered due to the amount of time trying to get a good FPS single player experience.

Another thing that bugs me with the MP on Q4 is that you can only have up to 16 people going at it. Not that D3 was any better, but I had higher expectations from Q4 then I did for D3's mp.

They both should be easily comparable games to each other, but in actuality they aren't.

I find D00M3 gave me a little more chills walking down an unlit hallway having to hold my flash light up only to be scared by zombies jumping out at me.
D3 is more of a true survival horror games in league with the Resident Evil series.

Q4 to me was more of a "shoot em' up" much like the Duke Nukem series.

But its a good game.

I guess you need to figure out what you want in the next game purchuse your considering.

You wanna be sitting on the edge of your seat hoping you wont wet yourself? Then I'd go with D00M3. Add the addon for another 20 bucks and its even more enjoyable with the DOUBLE shot gun

Now if you want to go through blasting things to smitherines, jumping occasionally, then I'd go for Q4.

Both to me are equal in quality and fun.

Just depends on what your looking for!


Why dont you check out the demo's on the net and decide? Thats how I buy my games. (unless its a startrek game. Then I own it just to own it... heh Im a g33k...) lol

Like I said in earlier, D00M3 is a survival horror FPS where you basically just have to survive on your own,

But in Q4, you basically are a futuristic marine fighting in old buildings, trenches and stuff like that. Really "war like", and you get help from NPC's
as well. Trust me, its a REALLY good game.

Just gotta pick what you really want. A survival game or a "war" game with horrific monsters... How about you buy both? =P Problem solved. LoL

 

Finished DOOM3 the other night. There are so many games coming out but my wife forbids me from buying anything before Christmas (claiming gift ideas for). Still think I'll be picking up SW BattleFront 2, me and my 7 year old daughter play the first one, she's pretty good.

q4 looks like what doom should have been,still scary but not in total darkness all the time.

IMHO their two different games. While one (Q4) is based a little more on action, while D3 is a little more for suspence.

I do agree though. ALOT of improvments could have been made on D3, and alot of the nice graphics were hidden away in the darkness.

Q3 IMHO has far superior graphics.

But thats not the reason I purchuse games. D00M3 was a horror game which fit up my alley. Q3 is more of a team action horror game.

But to each his own.

 

Since I dont like total darkness games all the time, but wouldnt mind having some total darkness in some levels, Im going to get Quake 4

thats me to a t brandon,i don't mind dakness, but all the time?and i don't remember the original being in the dark all the time.rember avp?total darkness turned me right off the game.
