Okay I'm doing this for my bro.

He heard that Doom3 coming out but wanted to know if he his laptop is good enough to play.
He has a Pentium IX 2.66 ghz, 512 ram, and a ATI RADEON IGP345M 64mb. I know its a piece of crap video card.. tell u the truth I never even heard of it but bear with me my bro doesnt play games at all but once he found out DOOM 3 he had to get it. So what u guys think can it run in DOOM3?

Will need to upgrade the video card, but otherwise yeah, he'll be able to by a long shot.

can u upgrade a laptop video card? Also if he cant u think he can atleast play the game with everything low.

I'm not sure about that. As for upgrading the notebook video card, I would definetely bring it to a local shop to do it because it is very difficult. Although the price for the installation of the video card and stuff at that store is going to be expensive. But it is totally worth it. The last thing you want is your laptop getting screwed up and the warranty not available because you tinkered with it.

Well have a 9200 in my room somewhere. U think that be good enough to just play the game?

  6. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

yeah, im sure that would be fine. Or you could give it to me? lol

  7. TheFrostyOne

    TheFrostyOne Private E-2

lol its only a 9200 with 64mb. Wish it was 128 but o well. It came with my computer but swap it for a 9800XT :)

O laptop video card is the same as a desktop videocard right?

  9. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

No a laptop video card is different unless its a newer alienware or dell laptop and most video cards aren't changeable.

:: IT wouldn't hurt to have an extra video card laying around. I could always sell it :p

  10. TheFrostyOne

    TheFrostyOne Private E-2

Sell it huh? Wonder how much I would actually get for the card.

  11. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

Well here in my city in NY there is a local bidding site called RITbay.com and its like ebay except it is free to post stuff and free to sell stuff. It's also only for people in the area so you can like deliver the stuff and so its a lot easier. For that video card I would think you could get atleast $30-40 for it.

you won't get too much for a 9200 64mb...their only around $50 brand new. also, you won't be able to upgrade the video card in the laptop. they (99% of the time) are soldered onto the mainboard.

that laptop may be able to play it with settings on medium or low...there is a doom3 video that was taken on a geforce3 and the video looks sweet. should be somewhere in the gaming threads...

edit: here it is...hope it still works

would a geforce fx 5200 do it?

  14. TheFrostyOne

    TheFrostyOne Private E-2

How sure are u it will be able to play with my bro laptop?

Now this is for myself. Do think I would need a extra 512 ram? I have a Pentium IV 2.8ghz HT, ATI Radeon 9800XT, 512 PC-2700 and a Audigy 2 ZS. I was thinking about wasting another 100 for a extra 512 ram for DOOM 3. Think it be worth it?

  15. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

no, the amount of ram you have right now should hold for another two years and then it will probably become the minimal requirement

  16. Drakeskull

    Drakeskull Private E-2

Well I dont know of the exact capibilitys of the 5200 but if a geforce3 ran it im sure it could. And as for the ram if you dont have anything else to spend you money on it isnt a bad idea you will be able to get a little more out of the game. I have 1024 and i loaned 512 to my other system just to get it up and running until I could get some ram for it and it seemed to put a hurt on halo performance.

  17. acejones

    acejones A Different Title

if i were to guess...i would guess that it will. just not sure about performance loss. i can play farcry on my 9200. its not the greatest graphics (everything on medium), but it is smooth and it still looks great.
i'm thinking about doing the same. all i know is that it won't hurt, and eventually 1gig will be the ram standard.

  18. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

man im getting behind in the computer world. I have to get a new mobo a processor. I also need to get more ram (i have only 256 DDR)

    Omegamerc MajorGeek

Imo i think your wrong; 512mb right now is the minimum on any pc you buy and almost any laptop over 1000$

Also i dont believe onboard igp or a 9200/5200 will be able to run anything other then uber low settings @ 640x480 for doom3

  22. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

no i meant the minimal requirements for a game.

  23. acejones

no you don't...just get online and read about the new technologies. read what other users are doing. figure out what's standard, what's wishful, and what's overkill.

  24. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

no, i really do need more money. I have $0. I am dead broke. I can't buy anything!

thats probably a good thing ;)

  26. NeoNemesis

    NeoNemesis Moutharrhea

yeah you probably are right. the last thing i just got for my computer was a case. Lukily that was for a late bday present and not out of my own wallet. my xbox is what sucks the money right out. those games are like $20-40 each!

I'd get Halo 2 if it wasn't on the piece of crap X-Box.

  31. Omegamerc

    Omegamerc MajorGeek

Nice constructive arguement...Im guessing its a piece of crap because you dont have it?

IMO i dont like X-Box. I cant stand the controlls. :( I own a ps2 and a gamecube, my brother has the x-box. Most of the games come out for all 3 systems anyway, so i stay away from its ere green and black gameplay. :)

The only game that only came out for x-box that i wanted to play was Halo, but it then came out for PC. Much Much better. :D :D :D :D I love that game. :)

are you thinking of the old controllers are the new S controllers that are smaller than like gamecube controllers. I love Xbox, i don't know why people hate it so bad. Everything is good on it. The only downside is that the online play costs money. Oh and halo is alot better on xbox than pc. Believe me, i have both.

  34. TheFrostyOne

    TheFrostyOne Private E-2

Yea I agree with Nem I really didnt like Halo on the PC. I guess I perfer Halo with the S control. Love that controlerl and cant stand the bulky one. Wonder if there eevr was a guy who can actually feel comfortable using those controllers/

Doom 3 has a good autodetect feature. I got a 1.7Ghz Celery with 512 pc2100 DDR Radeon 9600 128 Megs RAM and im in 640 480 with medium. Gets a little bumpy sometimes. Doesnt look to bad at that rez tho amnd you dont lose any special effects like the sweet ass lighting and what not :) Be prepared to use the flashlight and loking in every corner wondering if something is gonna jump out :)

Frosty, did you and your brother pick up Doom 3 yet? I was just curious, because I would like to know if you were able to run it on your brother's laptop and on your system.
