I have a doorbell ring which doesn't work but maybe its because its missing something.

The model says in the back is : SL-6151-RX-A

I changed the A23 battery in the ringer which i push the button, but nothing changed. i opened a small port in the receiver box and i think something is missing not sure what i need though. It looks like it needs some sort of chip or maybe an odd battery.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This is what it looks like : http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&...w=135&start=0&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0,i:98

    Greetings, Nexus_...

    Did the unit ever work?

For reference, from the Amazon site:

Also, for what it's worth: this unit doesn't get many favorable reviews on that page...

I notice in the packet there's a battery for the transmitter so I assume there is also a battery for the receiver inside ,if so they can't ship products with batteries connected so either connect the battery to the terminals, insert batteries or look for a little transparent plastic strip near the battery or batteries, pull this strip out and it should connect the battery 'similar to a smoke alarm.'

If there's no battery in there you'll have to post a picture of the battery terminals or compartment, I can't see any info on the battery type of the receiver.

I know it sounds obvious but have you read the instructions to see what battery/batteries you need?

The unit did work , but it was unhooked so it wouldn't make a noise.

I only assume the battery at the time was running out because it made a low pitch static sound. I did not take out any batteries so i can't tell if there is something missing from the original receiver.

I also did not buy this, so i have no manual for it. This was already in the house when i moved in a little over 2 years ago. Ill see if i can take a picture of the receiver

Don't know if something's missing from the receiver, but I doubt it's a battery - the wireless units I've seen only contain the one battery in the transmitter (the "pushbutton"). The receiver physically plugs in to a wall outlet, correct?

Here in Houston (home of heat, humidity and hurricanes), I've had both a wireless light switch in the garage and a cheap external thermometer transmitter die off after a few years each. I suspect the Chinese manufacturers' definition of "weatherproof" leaves a lot to be desired. In contrast, the two wireless light switch transmitters I have inside have worked fine for almost six years, each requiring just one battery replacement.

If new batteries don't fix it, I'd just go back to Amazon or Home Depot and buy a new one.

    Here is a manual.

I don't see how the dip switches for the code settings could have changed on their own so they probably already match.

I agree with gman that a simple replacement would probably be your best bet since they are relatively cheap. I find electrical switches just don't last as long as they used to. Not worth the frustration of intermittent functionality to mess with beyond changing the battery.

Here is what the receiver looks like when i take off the screw off. Like i mentioned it seems like its missing something.

The small rectangle one only needs a battery which i already put inside.

I was just trying to save some money, i mean i was hoping whatever is missing from the receiver is only like $2-$3.

I guess a new set isn't all that expensive maybe around $12 new, does it matter which one i get? What would you guys recommend?

Is it my aging eyes, or are those scorch marks on that transmitter?

There's nothing missing from the receiver, if you read the instructions it shows you three two pin jumpers, the empty pins are to move the jumpers to change the radio channel, which you may want to try before you bin it.

Other than that there are no serviceable parts and I'll bet it's all plastic moulded so you can't take it apart, not worth it anyway they're really cheap so not worth risking a house fire with a bodge repair.
