Sorry, but I'm not sure which forum to put this in, so I'll just stick it here. Long story short. I gave my parents the computer that has been sitting in my closet since college. It's a 450MHz pentium 3. For the life of me, I can't remember what the password for DOS is to get logged in. Is there a way to turn it off or change it without getting past it? If not, I guess this computer is junk. Does removing the battery do anything? I know formatting wouldn't. You can either reply here or PM me or email me at kayak101@gmail.com if you'd rather. Thanks in advance.

i am not quite sure when you mean a Dos password (since it's a pentium 3 450 Mhz). But one thing you can try is going into safe mode (tapping f8). See if it lets you in from there.

If your talking the BIOS password. Yes removing the battery for a few minutes will reset the BIOS and erase the password.

Resetting the BIOS password is pretty simple..just open ur ur CPU. Take out the small silver lithium battery cell out. Keep it out for 30 seconds and then put it back there. Ur BIOS password will be reset. Happy computing!! :)

it's not the password to get into BIOS itself. It's the one that kicks on right after it tells you what your video card is before it lets you get any farther.

That sounds like a password to get into the computer, but the same answer still holds up, that password is held within the memory that the battery keeps.
Unplug the power, open the box, take out the battery for 2-3 minutes and put it back in, than go into the BIOS and set the date, time, and other settings you may need.
