ok so I ordered a new computer and it is due to arrive tomorrow(Monday) :D

I ordered it without windows since I have a (legal) unused Win98se cd I plan to use, now after I put the sucker together  I assume I run the DOS cd that is coming with it and then run the Win98se cd and then take care of all the drivers and stuff...am I correct or is there something major I don't know about?

Well you would need to make a windows 98 boot disk to boot the Win98 CD....

Check the CD as if it is not an upgrade it should be bootable anyway. I would have preferred paying the extra bit and getting XP. It would be oem and cheaper than retail. Win98 is getting rather olf now and M$oft is discarding support for it.

it's not an upgrade cd so hopefully I won't need a bootdisk

mal1930, you sound like my brother LOL
if I wanted XP I would have just bought a computer with XP already on it but some of my favorite programs won't work (or won't work correctly) on XP (and no there aren't patches for them) so I ordered my new one to replace my current one and I fully intend to have a XP computer soon too ;)

HI, For a while I had 2 os on the one computer and guess what I can't remember how I did it. They were on separate drives and the menu would ask which you wanted on boot up.

I hope you and your brother are younger than I am. LOL

BTW Last month I became a Great grandfather to 2 identical twin girls. love Mal
