Dos

Hi,
I,m taking a microcomputer maintenance & support course.
I am having difficulty with the DOS commands, switches etc is there a book with all the command structures that I can memorize, and what is the easiest/best way to learn this.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

This looks like a good place to begin getting familiar with the commands.

The way I learned the commands was to type commandname /? and see what switches are available, as some commands have many, many switches and can be difficult to remember the exact syntax.

I haven't looked for any books, as this seems to be fairly complete.

Yeah, DOS can be intimidating... It just keeps on expecting input with its blinking cursor.

Some of the commands that should be first on the learning list are: cd, copy, del, dir, mkdir, and ren.

The only problem with that link is that it has DOS commands that are in pure DOS, Win95 and up, and WinXP commands all mixed together, so not all will work in all versions of DOS.

I still use DOS some, so I could probably help out some in the future, if need be.

 

Microsoft's website should have all of the DOS commands and a description of them. When you've been using the CLI in Linux for years, DOS is very easy.
