I have a few games I've used on XP to 8.1. Good games. The other users here wanted some of these on their Win 10 pcs. A couple would install but frame rates were off and the programs were buggy enough I had to use the 3-finger salute to get to task manager to recover to the desktop.

Remembering an earlier thread, I thought of the dotNet 3.5 need for older apps. So, on one of the '10 pcs I head into 'Programs and Features' and select the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" area. And there it is... .Net 3.5 and it's not selected. No big deal, I select it!

It wants the installation media. Don't have any.
It then requires an internet connection. Don't have any for these '10 pcs.

I head to MS on my '7 and their own page only has how to install by running DISM from the install DVD or ISO........ No offline installer mentioned or available.

    Searching, I came across this...

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/framework-3-offline/

    I grabbed the 3rd listed...

    .Net 3.5 offline installer Win 10 64.zip

Put it on each '10 machine and now the users are good to go and have been using the new (to them) games without so much a hiccup.

If you need or want to use an older app or game on '10 this might help.

@Imandy Mann A handy post - I had this problem some time ago, and if you can get on-line- it worked ok using the
"Turn Windows Features On or Off"
But, as Microsoft stops support in the very near future for Windows 7, (then W8.1) then this is handy to keep for repairs on older Windows setups. Nice to know the links still work, even for .Net 1, all the way through to the latest.
Eldon's links will be very useful .(and handy if Imandy Mann needs to reinstall the old XP..........) -I know -Imandy must have backup, but....

The sourceforge dl came in at 74mb vs the MS @ 281? For my price I pay for access the lower mb makes difference. I remember some other members here talking of being on lower capped plans so may help some others like me.

I'm all for smaller downloads but something is amiss...
    What exactly are you downloading?

    .NET Framework 3.5 includes 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1 - 197MB.
This is no longer available from Microsoft.

    .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (aka 3.5.1) includes 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2 - 231MB.

Net Framework 3.5 offline installer Win_10_64.

Third download listed on the page. 74,852 KB.

It's zipped, so may be compressed. Title ( File Name as listed in my Download folder) as shown above.
I carried it by thumb drive to both Win 10 pc's which are offline as that 74 mb file.

I guess Ms wanted to make it hard to enjoy some of our older games and utilities.. I notice on their Win 10 page they are suggesting to use it on new hardware (which they offer for sale). Everyone can't afford new hardware and also the amount of data required to keep a basic Win 10 on line.

    What is the uncompressed size?

I hate to defend Microsoft...

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (3.5.1) is still available from Microsoft.
    .NET Framework 3.5 isn't.

We've used this trick at work. You collect the necessary .NET 3.5 files from the Windows 10 installation media and package them in a ZIP file. When you need to do an offline installation, you simply unpack the ZIP, run the DISM command, and point it to the location of the files:
    Code:
    dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFX3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:X:\dotNET_files
This is what someone has done and uploaded it to SourceForge.

Well, if I would have seen either of your post this weekend, I might have done it your way.
