Double shortcuts on desktop

    Hi to you all,
    Last week I bought my wife a nice second hand Packard Bell EASYNOTE E3255 laptop (AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+, 512 MB PC266 DDR SDRAM) which has XP Professional as operating system. The laptop is working fine, but when reorganizing the desktop I noticed that any program shortcut which is placed on the desktop is shown twice there. Does anybody have a clue what is causing this erratic behaviour?

    Thanks for your advice, it appears to have cured the problem. After modifying the value data in common desktop the shortcuts reappeared the way they should: just one of each.

    Hi Chris, I'm sorry I have to bother you once again. Today I re-installed XP Professional and when the double shortcuts showed up I wanted to use your register cure but it's not showing any longer on the MG thread. Could you post it please, or send it to my mailadress hrweijer@worldonline.nl

    In Star's absence I will post the likely instructions he did ( hopefully )



    Run Regedit ( Start > Run > type regedit and hit enter )

    and locate this Registry Key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

    Modify/Create the Value Name [CommonDesktop] according to the Value Data listed below.

    Value Name: CommonDesktop
    Value Data: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

    Exit Registry and Reboot
