I installed XP on my pc(one disk, one partition), it was a clean install but it failed the first time, so I installed it again after formatting. When I boot now some kind of bootmanager appears asking me to choose between 2 XP installs. The first one works the second one leads me to a instalation failed message.

Question: How do I get rid of this bootmanager and how can I delete this failed install?(or where to find these files)

You need to remove the invalid entry in the file C:\boot.ini.

The file is a hidden, system file so you have to change the folder options to see such files. Before making any changes to the file take a copy of the file for backup.

The boot.ini is a normal text-file and you can open it with notepad. Here you will see the entries for the two WinXP, remove the faulty one. (They are listed in the same order as when booting)

I'm running Win98 at the moment and I cant remember whether Msconfig in WinXP can remove entries in the boot.ini but that you can also try it.

If something goes wrong use the WinXP CD to boot to recovery console and then restore the backup(You just created) of the boot.ini.
