Hi !! I just down loaded SlimDrivers. It didn't work exactly like Tim's tutorial. I did finally manage to get to 0 drivers, but it took a little work to get there. I started out with needing 12 up dated drivers. Down to 0 now. Would like to know why it down loaded (Vinyl Deck) and why Online Armor blocked Vinyl Deck. What the hell is Vinyl Deck. Do I need it?? Every thing seems to be working just fine. I'm not sure what all SlimDrivers did; I guess it worked ???????? I went from needing 12 to needing 0. I uninstalled Vinyl Deck. I'm totally confused, but that's normal for me.
    Thanks!:wave

I did a Google search for "Vinyl Deck Codecs", and it seems vinyl deck to be associated with VIA Technologies,(AC'97 codec combo driver(WDM)), but if I were you I would double check for yourself.

Hi friend!! It just showed up on my disk top after down loading SlimDrivers. I have already uninstalled Vinyl Deck.
Thanks for your reply. Maybe someone could check to see why it down loaded when I down loaded SlimDrivers. No harm done; just courteous! I don't think I need it!:wave

Hi!! I need a little help. I can't find any help files for this software. I have down loaded and ran this program. It said I had 12 out dated drivers. I clicked on to each one and installed it. It now says I have 0 out dated drivers and I guess that's good. My PC is running well, but it was before I did all this, so what did I actually do?. What if I wanted to roll every thing back like it was?? Can I do that with this program. I watched the you tube but still have a lot of questions about logs and back ups ect.
    Thanks!!

They're all questions you should have been asking before and during the install (FAQs and HowTo's on the website)and looking for again after running it for the first time (Options, Preferences, Help in the program) and yet again after the first scan but before allowing it to make any changes.

If you have an effective Backup/Restore plan that you're happy with, I don't see why you need software like this.

If you must play with 'new' software, look for a good tutorial, walkthrough or (non-fanboi) review and study it well before committing to testing it on your main (or only) PC.

I am not a great fan of these driver finders.
What they tend to do is look for the latest release of a driver but that is not always the best driver.
For example i have a GTX480 graphics card and the latest driver is a load of :crap for my use so i have a driver that is more than a year old and it is perfect.

HI Guys!! First of all it's not a Backup/Restore program. Second of all, our leader Major Attitude made the tutorial and recommenced it highly and said he really liked the program and used it all the time. I don't know that much about drivers and that's why I trusted MA. I use Macrium Reflect and I always have a current back up image I can restore to, so it doesn't worry me very much to try a new software because I can recover from just about any thing.
I thank you both for your reply's and I will try to find out more about this software and report back here.:wave

PS I seldom down load any program that is not recommended by Major Geeks because it has been tested and approved.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, oneeyejack.

In the SlimDrivers tutorial, MA offered some generalized reasons for using the program: if you're a hardcore gamer, if you're into graphics/photography, etc.

For the most part, however, the program (and others of its ilk) is not needed under normal usage. Hardware drivers are usually updated for specific reasons to address specific issues - most OEM manufacturers offer a 'changelog' listing the various problems that a driver update might cure.

No reason to perform a cart blanche update of hardware drivers - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hey oneeyejack, not sure as to how the app works.
Does it delete the previous and install?
If not, can you not from device manager Roll back. (the one you want to) Hope you have a list/log that was updated.
Else check Sys restore points may have the driver listed, but you will lose the later one's you are ok with..
    Cheers..

Edit to add: Agree with Bill and Caliban. Research if the updated driver has any thing to offer.

Hi guys and gals. Thanks for your reply's. Caliban is probably right about not needing to up date and if it ain't broke , don't fix it. I don't know much about drivers. I was just surfing Major Geeks and saw MA's tutorial and thought I would give it a try. I don't know much about the program yet, but I'll keep learning. I visited SlimDrviers forum, and found a PDF tutorial. It explained things pretty well.
As far as device manager. I have never had it find a different driver. So maybe I don't need to up date them. This is not some thing I'm real familiar with. and I'm just trying to learn new things all the time. Thanks for your reply's.

Hi friend!! I have never had Device Manager up date a driver for me. I always get the answer in screen shot.
    Thanks for your reply!:wave

Hi! A coupe of screen shots. I believe these are the drivers SlimDriver down loaded on my PC. You can read the information on each driver, which I think is kind a neat!
