Downgrade from Vista Basic to XP Pro

My Satellite L355-S7905 came with Vista Home Basic. I took the hard drive out and replace it with a new, bigger hard drive. I attempted to load
XP Pro on the new hard drive without success. I keep getting a blue screen. What is keeping me from loading XP on the new hard drive. Surely, the
XP CD has drivers associated with it. Thanks. Lincoln

 

Yup, you're for sure missing drivers as this is new hardware. I have to ask, did you change the BIOS ti boot off the DVD first? Check the Toshiba site for XP drivers and you might get lucky. I rarely agree with going back to XP but the Vista Basic really sucks.

I cannot find drivers for your laptop on the Toshiba site.

augiedoggie and burrell I thank you very much for replying. Toshiba does have XP drivers (16) listed for the L355-S7905. I will have to download them to another computer and then do the transfer. Now, how do I transfer them to the new hard drive? Thanks augiedoggie for the welcome. lincoln.

 

Plodr, you are right this is a SATA hard drive. Drivers will be needed for the SATA. Again, I have a problems getting these drivers, XP and SATA, to the hard drive. Thanks a lot.

Good point! :clap And as it is an XP CD, it is most likely one of the earlier Builds of XP (without the SP's).
