    Hey everyone,

I have an older computer with a pentium II in it. I was wondering if any of you would recomend going back to Windows 2000 for resource purposes. I have have done many different tweaks and have disabled the windows themes (although I use them from time to time).

    I just wanted your opinions.

Amount of ram might be more of the issue ...am running xp pro on a pent.II with no problems ...

Yeah, I have 256mb of ram, I clean out my prefetch from time to time and still don't like the amount of time it takes to open a program or even a folder. And I'm not a dumb person who doesn't run spyware scans... :p

You can also (withcaution) go to taskmanager and set the priorities higher for the programs you use most often.

This routine may just free up enough virtual paging memory to get you out of your predicament. Have no programs running when you do the following ….. 1) Left click on Start.... 2) Left click on Control Panel..... 3) Scroll down & left click on System.... 4) On System Properties Left click on the Advanced Tab.... 5) In the Performance Section Left click on Settings.... 6) In the Performance Options Left click on the Advanced Tab.... 7) Left click on Change.... 8) Change Initial Size to 2000.... 9) Change Maximum Size to 4000.... 10) Left click on Set.... 11) Left click on OK.... 12) Left click OK on all menus until all are gone..... You may have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect….. Let me know if this works…...

Reason I asked is that the 5.5 apparently was from a MS$ update that caused this exact problem ....might want to search your updates for one that may have been downloaded right before the problems started ..or do a system restore to pre-problems and see which ones went bye-bye after the restore.
