I have been using many dl accelerators, but none of them seem to improve my dl speed cause when i compare the time with and without the accelerator, its about the same. Anyone know where to find a good one at least. Thnx, Blade

    Re: Download Accelerators

All of these ‘download acceleration’ programs and utilities basically work in the same manner; by splitting the downloaded files into segments (or sections), downloading each section simultaneously, resulting in an overall increase in the downloading speed.

FlashGet (Now Freeware) 1.72 was one of the first "widely used" download managers and remains very popular due to the fact that it is very fast and now free (it used to come in an ‘adware’ version as well as a paid shareware version that removed the ads). I remember reading somewhere a while back that it is the number one download manager in China; no small feat.

Free Download Manager is also fast and suitable for most users for those who download any files via HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. Great features and has never had any history of Adware or spyware.

Important Note: Many anti-virus and spyware removal programs such as Pest Patrol, Spyware Doctor and Avast may detect false positives in FlashGet. For instance every single time I try to install FlashGet, Avast detected it as adware Win32-Adan-062. McAfee Antivirus also detects it as adware, However NOD32, Spybot S&D, Adware, EWIDO do not seem to detect anything during or after installation.

Last time I downloaded it (to test it v1.72) I quarantined and deleted Win32-Adan-062 and FlashGet still works. Flashget is freeware now however it has quite a sorted past because at one time it was adware but Flasher has never made any secret of the fact that it once installed adware; and in the end; if users do actually get this Win32-Adan-062 warning; once it is removed it still functions fine. ;)

    Good Luck!

It may not be your downloader but could be your modem settings.

    Dr TCP (not on MG).

    Link as follows. www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe
will show you your current modem settings and allow you to modify them.

YOU MUST copy down your original settings so you can go back to them if anything stuffs up.
A suggestion, firstup, AFTER writing down you initial settings, is to set all to DEFAULT, those settings that can be set to Default, and leave the others alone.

Reconnect to the Net after each alteration to settings and see what difference that makes. The settings that cannot be set to DEFAULT are the important ones and must be experimented with, to get best results. Bazza
