I like uTorrent though I hardly ever use it except for getting a Linux distro.

Torrents are simply a small file telling a torrent client what to download, who to download from, etc. If you download the .torrent file, you will need a torrent client in order to use it. I prefer uTorrent, though there's plenty of other alternatives out there.

Basically, install uTorrent (or another torrent client), then choose Open With (torrent client) when you go to download the .torrent file. Then, it will open in uTorrent (or whatever client you use) and ask where you want to save the actual download the torrent is for. Once completed, it's polite to seed the torrent until you've uploaded as much data as you've downloaded, if not more. I leave all my torrents seeding once they've downloaded, personally. I set my upload/download limits in preferences so it doesn't interfere with my browsing, etc.

An .ISO file is an image of an optical disk. You can burn them, or mount them using virtual optical disk software like Daemon Tools Lite.

As mentioned, you can mount ISO files using a program like Daemon or the excellent freeware MagicDisc. This basically creates a new CD/DVD drive on your PC and "opens" the ISO file just as if it had been burned to a disc and installed in a regular CD/DVD drive. Alternatively, if you want to burn the ISO file, just about burning program has ISO support, just look for "burn disc from image" or "create CD/DVD from ISO" or something similar, or use the excellent freeware ImgBurn.

If you need to download torrents, I STRONGLY suggest that you DO NOT use a "download manager" like FlashGet (no offense Bill :-o ) because they tend to take control of ALL downloads, not just torrents, and for me personally, I like using my browser to download regular stuff, and I recommend a torrent "client" that is used strictly for torrent downloads.... as mentioned, uTorrent is probably the most popular and most widely accepted; some torrent clients have been "banned" by some torrent sites due to their being unreliable and prone to data corruption. So, if you decide to not use uTorrent, do some research before settling on a client. Another good choice is Vuze (formerly called Azureus), it is also popular.
