Do any of the "download managers" allow resuming even after the PC has been restarted.

    Thanks

    Hi

Yes many of them will do if resume is listed as a feature, my preference of download manager is Flashget ( free and not ad supported any more or I wouldnt use it ) but others may have their fav, so a list of them are here in amongst the other Internet Tools

The resume feature is more dependent on the site your downloading from than the Download Manager. Most Managers today have the resume feature, but if the site does not allow resume the file must be downloaded in one fell swoop.

My favorite Manager is Flashget too, but I will not use anything newer than the Classic 1.73 version. Since 1.73 Flashget decided it wanted to be a torrent client too, and during setup these new versions attempt to open 5 or 6 ports on the PC. I don't want Flashget as a torrent client and I don't want any application opening ports on my computer without asking. If my firewall had not been set to block all outgoing attempts I would never have known FG was trying to open ports to specific addresses (one of which supposedly Whois's to Server Beach).

If anyone reading this uses a newer version of Flashget than 1.73 I would suggest you visit one of those port scanning security sites and test your vulnerabilities with and without FG open. Then if you don't use Flashget as a torrent client remove it and replace it with the Classic 1.73. Remember, for the longest time Flashget was ad supported, and a leopard doesn't change its spots overnight. The open ports may in the least be used to track your activities for reasons associated with advertisment targeting companies.

I downloaded "FreshDownload" and started a large download. After the computer was restarted, the download re-started from zero. In ther words, the previous downloaded data received before the restart was discarded.

Perhaps my terms are wrong but to me this is a restart, not "resume".

This is the same as I get with using the browser only.

    Can you help?
    Thanks
    Ron

Check your settings in Fresh Download. (I don't have my windows computer on).
I don't know about rebooting but one site kept cutting out for me so instead of using the default, something like resuming 5 times, I upped it to 50 times. Maybe if you use up the resume attempts, you have to start from 0% again.
