Hi All! My old computer died, bought new one over the weekend, Windows Vista x64, ALWAYS follow MG advice for firewalls, spyware, anitvirus, etc - haven't steered me wrong in more than 4 year :major . Here's the problem... have DSL service at work and dial up at home :cry (only option besides satellite, way too $$$). Updating newly loaded programs using dial-up is TOTAL nightmare (2-3 HOURS per program). Surely there is a way to download the updates to a jump drive and upload at home... have to admit, I am not smart enough to figure this out myself. Can anybody help out?

PS - I will definitely need simplified step-by-step instructions - laymans terms :-o

Yes, this is no big deal. Just set up a folder on the work computer. Then download the things you want to take home with you into that folder. Then you would just plug in your usb drive. Then go back the drive where the folder is and 'copy' it then goto the usb device and "paste" it to the usb drive. This is for the actual programs, if you're wanting to do the actual program updates, let us know what programs as 'most' have a offline feature for update for this exact reason.

*Depending on where you work, you would want to delete anything you download to that computer after you copied it to your usb, some places of work don't like 'extras' on their machines.*

Buck_nekid - surprisingly, I've got downloading the software and cleanup down pat ;) ... just want the updates... looking for Avira AntiVir Personal Edition and Spybot S&D.

PS - working in an educational environment has many perks ;)

OK, those two programs are easy, Spybot S&D updates every Wednesday, the update executable file can be found here AT MG:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy_Update_d3957.html <-- this link will probably change every week. Just need to double click this to install it.

Avira (the AV I use) also has a manual update function, I see the updates on MG from time to time, but I go right to Avira for them to make sure they are up to the minute fresh (so they say):

    http://www.avira.com/en/support/vdf_update.html

To apply the update manually just double click the system tray icon for Antivir, then hit 'updates' at the top and go down to "manual update" then browse to the file "ivdf_fusebundle_nt_en.zip" you downloaded. double click it, it will apply, done.

I actually do these two files for my mother who is on dial up.
