download timming out, solutions?

A problem i often have: i'm downloading a file posted on a website, by right-clicking/save taget as, then the "estimated time" comes in at 5-10 hours, and it says its only coming in at like, 200 bytes a second or something carzy like that. The file just doesnt seem to keep downloading even though i can make a connection to the file. IE eventually says the downlaod has "timed out" and it gets canceled

I know this is probably because of high internet trafic, a lot of people dowloading at once, but sometimes a link is busy for WEEKS.

Is there anyway to compete for a better connection or is there just no way around an overburdend site?

would a download manager make a difference? Because i saw it on the homepage I just downloaded ReGet here:

Any other download programs that would be better? Any recomendations??

 

A download manager is certainly a much better option, whether or not it alleviates your problem.

Does it do this every download or just one site in particular?

FireFox has it's own download manager built-in, or there are plenty of very good programs available like Download Accelerator Plus, Get Right and other tools available from HERE.

 

It happens on the same site, and ive used fire-foxs download manager, it stalls completely too.


I'll those programs though.
