Hi I'm just wondering what is the best way to do updates to a program. Lets say CCleaner has a newer version out today,do I just download it and install. Or do I un-install the old version then re-install the new one. Is it better to have a clean install by un-installing the old one,or does it really matter.

Most decent programs will tell you if you need to remove the old version or not.

Generally, you can just download and install over the existing one, but there is no hard and fast rule to it. (most programs that keep things in backup, like changed or deleted files etc let you install over the old one to preserve information)

Most programs that use the Micro$$oft installer (msi) generally create a restore point, but if in doubt you could always manually create one if you use it.
