Download Windows Vista Basic

So my laptop is currently running Windows 7 Premium. I have an old ACER 5315 laptop that's about 5-6 years old. I'm actually surprised it is running it to be honest. The only reason I have 7 on it is because I had some problems and had to have it wiped. I had a friend wipe it and when he did he put 7 on it. Needless to say I found out it was pirated. I don't want it on my laptop when i found out. My laptop runs hot and is not as smooth as it used to be. I still have the product key sticker on the bottom of the laptop. If I can get a copy of vista basic would the key still work after 5-6 years? Thanks.

It's been my experience that with situations like yours the best course is to contact Microsoft directly. Amazingly, even with all of the negative hype through the years, Microsoft support personnel have been extremely helpful to me, especially concerning licensing issues.
