Downloading and streaming freezes

    Hi,

I've been having recurrent problems with my internet connection in that streaming videos, regardless of the website, tend to initially load very fast and then suddenly freeze halfway through. As the video catches the buffer the video pauses and nothing happens unless I drag the cursor over the timeline and click it and the streaming continues again. This can sometimes occur 2 or 3 times during 5 minutes of video.

The problem has recently started occuring when downloading files as well, they often begin to download perfectly fine until suddenly stopping for no reason and with no error message. My internet connection doesn't drop and if I pause and resume the download it carries on just fine (sometimes freezing again reguring several more restarts), but as you can imagine this is extremely annoying and I want to resolve it.

I have tried using testing downloads of several different files, from different websites and using different browsers and all have the same result, streaming videos and files larger than aprx 50mb always freeze at some point before completion, however the point at which the freeze occurs is always random.

My ISP is Virgin Media (Cable/UK) and I suspected it was a problem on their end as I reset all my equipment and still the problem persisted. However, upon testing the problem on another PC on the same network, downloads and streaming videos work just fine without any interruptions. I tried disabling all anti virus, firewalls, placing my PC into DMZ, but none of these attempts made any difference.

My suspicion is on my end somewhere in my internet settings but I'm not quite sure how.

    Any ideas?

    Hi

I would like you suspect your ISP over Windows OS being the issue, and you may need to check you have lastest Firmware for your model router or even if you have lastest router Virgin supply.

Then its test your internet speed a few times over a few days at various times and use Speedtest to do this as they are reliable.

Do also check that you do not have too many startups on your PC that could be runing that do not need to be, these may slow your PC down, you can run the below as written and attach a log of startups and we can advise as to what are needed or not.
