Is it advisable to get on the internet with only zone alarm firewall so that I can download AVG antivirus and antispyware programs from majorgeeks or should I install these programs from CD before even trying to get on the internet? I am running windows vista with DSL. Also, zone alarm is listed as compatible with vista, but is this the beta version, a new version, or the old version?
    Thanks

Should I download AVG from CD before accessing the internet, or is it ok to go directly to major geeks and download it?
    Thanks

Software compatibility questions should really be asked in the Software Forum where you can get more help on that then here in the Malware Forum where our focus is malware.

To be truly safe, the best approach is to install protection software before every connecting to the internet. In some cases this is not always feasible for people. Would it be okay for you to download other tools with only a firewall.....maybe. Some people with non-updated Windows OS's and no protection have managed to get infected within 5 to 10 seconds of connecting their PCs to the internet. Does this happen all the time? No! But it does happen.
