Downloading Software

When you download software, what is the difference between Saving the file or Opening the file to your computer. I usually Open the file...Does it matter? Thanks.

 

If you Open File, you generally are not able to save it for later use.

 

I always Save in the case of software. If you open you run the risk of the software program installing which could cause problems if your i/net connection is active. And after you download irrespective of whether or not your AV is on run your AV over it again before installing the software. Super careful? - Yes - and it has saved my bacon on a lot of occasions.

I guess a silly question?

I want to download Ad-aware and spyware blaster but when I go to the download page, there is no hyperlink that says download?? How do I download on the download page???

 

And always (if you're a scaredycat like me) set a restore point before you install anything Yep, each time, each app. Even if you're installing three seperate applications on the same day. Like: Set restore point, install Avast. Set restore point, install Spybot. Set restore point, install CrapCleaner. And so on and so fourth. Why? Just in case the unthinkable happens and an install goes bad or corrupts a file you really need for another application, etc.
Gives you a get out of jail free card.
