downloading tv shows

this may be an innapropriate subject
but i was wondering if
downloading tv shows that are not yet out on dvd is illegal.
you know, like for example, "lost" season 2.
its on tv but its not yet out on dvd.
can anyone tell me if it is and why?

YES.

WHY, if the TV/Film studios wanted you to download these shows free, then they would not be wasting their time releasing them for sale in the shops, with the costs involved in distribution and packaging costs.

as an analogy, would you like me or others to connect to your bank account and download the contents?

while I do think that the cost of music and film/tv shows are higher than they should be, it does not still warrant stealing! ( no different stealing from the internet to actually going into the shop and walking out without paying )
