Downloading updates

HP Pavilion 9600 has griefed me since i got it. Problem is I have tried 3 times downloadin the 72 windows updates. Each.time I get "Update failed" and had another long wait while everything they did send was deleted. Any advice - I have NP with my PC on Vista or my laptop on Win7

 

Have you tried running the Microsoft Fixit?

 

You do not try and install 72 updates at once. Some updates require another update to be installed before it will install.

Look over the updates and do the oldest ones first only do the Important Security ones. I generally do two months at a time. Reboot, even it it doesn't mention that you need to. Then do the oldest again and reboot again. Continue looking over the list doing only 1 or 2 months at a time with the oldest done first.

 

Would be nice to see the error code that came with that "Update Failed". I personally have not had issues with installing 100+ updates at once. But, I can see what Plodr is saying, for troubleshooting issues.

 

Heh, had two server 2012 R2 installs going, they both installed initial updates and didn't ask to be rebooted. Knowing this issue, I rebooted, they came back online and stated no new updates, I of course scanned for new updates and boom more updates. So even the server side has these issues.

Oh, and we are not big enough for WSUS, most of our desktop deployment is VDI.
