Downloads just stop

it doesnt matter what im download, when im doing it, what browser i use just all of a sudden the download just stops i cant figure out what wrong. after it stops i have to start the download AGAIN! someone please help me!

 

What are we talking here JJ? Dial-up? Broadband? Two tin cans and a piece of wet string?

Ah "brodband" - that would it then you've lost the "a".

One thing to check though is under Start>Run>Winipcfg you will find under the name of you etheernet adapter a Lease Expires bit of info. Just check to see if that isn't set to something very short. If it is try releasing and renewing the information to if the expiry time increases.

 

when i type in Winipcfg it says no such program and i no the lease is 24 hours at a time

 

Well its probably not working because you probably have windows 2000 or xp. winipcfg is only in 98 and me. Do this goto start run cmd, then hit ok. Then in the black dos prompt type ipconfig and hit enter. Then paste the ip address and other info it gives you.

 

Ooops. Yes sorry I'm just an old fashioned guy (and yes I still use 98SE)

 

Hey no problem, your intentions were right and actually to release renew I should probably explain a little better. Do to above statement. then write down the values for posting here, then in the next thing, type ipconfig /release then enter, then ipconfig /renew then enter. Then ipconfig once more and post both sets of info. That should help us greatly.

 

im pretty experienced in computers so you dont have to take time to explain everything (i build them) and i have used ip config before, to get that information i have to dissasemble the network and direct connect to the surf board cable modem. o and everytime i shutdown my network and restart it (flip a switch) it releases and renews everything. my lease is 24 hours ( i havent used 98se since the release of XP ) but just in the effort to try and resolve my problem ill get all that info it will be in my next post

*UPDATE* i noticed that my default gateway/ip address are a little odd this is when im connected to the modem 70.187.40.1/70.187.41.211 this is when im connected to the network 70.187.40.1/70.187.55.181 could this be related to the problem?
