    Hi you ugly (beloved) geeks,
You guys (or ?) Have helped this ole (7+) computer, 1.2 G, 256 ram, 60m G HD windows ME in a MAJOR way over the last few years I now use: diskepper and ccleaner to regulary defrag and whatever cccleaner does. Kept the ole thing running. I was dumping as much as I could today to get it back to 1/2 full HD where it functions better and I came upon 2 regestry programs that had passed the 'free use" period. They found 200 things to get rid of. Is there something free to do that? and please refer me to any other programs that may be helpful to keep the ole thing going awhile. I'm about to offer things for sale online and I want it to be:heart as stable as possible!
    :confused

CCleaner has a registry cleaning option: click the "Issues" button... BTW- cleaning the registry doesn't really save disk space; it just gets rid of dead entries and 'disconnected' keys leftover from software installs & uninstalls.....

    Hi Bill,
just tried to download Ad-Aware and AVG Spyware, they required windows 2000 and above! Can I just rightclick and delete them from the desktop or go to add remove programs? Another problem with ME!
Think I'll find this with all the suggested downloads?
    Thanks
    Lyn
    Nice skull!

you will need to use ADD+REMOVE unless you have an uninstaller Right click will bring up a screen with options that will normally only let you delete the shortcut

    what OS are you using??http://bestsmileys.com/computer1/9.gif

i am not a techie but an enthusiastic learner i am sure if you have a little patience one of our top geeks will help you good luck

AVG AntiVirus will run under WinME, and Avira has a version of AntiVir for Win98/ME.....

    Hopperdave,
I got Avast antivirus a week or so ago. I was going down the list of recomended downloads which started with malware. When I tried to download Ad-Aware and AVG Spyware, they required windows 2000 and above! Aparently ME and 2000 are not close enough to the same thing??:confused

NO! Windows ME (Millenium Edition) and Windows 2000 are TOTALLY different! WinME is closer Win98SE, and Windows 2000 is closer to Windows XP. Most drivers and software that runs on ME will run on 98 (and vice versa), that same goes for 2000 and XP to a certain extent....
