    Hello,
I have done a lot of research into this problem and it appears as though many people have the same issue. I have done all of the scan steps that MajorGeeks.com lays out and still have not cleansed my system of this virus. I have 5 attached logs including the final scan with HJT. Please help me with this issue as it has affected my work dramatically.

I will attach the last two in a reply.

    Thank you,
    Jon

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

First a question/comment: Why didn't you run Bitdefender and attach the log as requested.

What virus are you referring too? Dr Watson is not a virus! Or are you referring to something else? Do you have a log that shows you have a virus? Dr Watson most frequently runs when there is a problem within the operating system. Malware could cause it to run but that is much less frequently the case. You show no signs of any malware (unless BitDefender finds something). You could try one more scan to look for rootkits but I'm not sure it will find anything either.

    Now please download F-Secure's BlacklightBeta
    • Download fsbl.exe and save it to the Desktop.
    • Once saved... double click fsbl.exe to install the program.
    • Click accept agreement and Click scan
    • This application may trigger a warning from your antivirus. Let the driver load. Wait for it to finish.
    • If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
    • It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number
    Please attach the BlackLight log.

Thank you for replying Chaslang. I was not able to run Bitdefender but I will try again. Basically, Dr. Watson closes many of my programs when I try to run them. It is very intermittent. It doesn't seem to be targeting any one program. It will close anything after awhile.

I will run blacklightbeta. Do you have any other suggestions to fix this problem? Should I reformat my hard drive?

    thanks,
    Jon

It still does not sound like a malware problem. It sounds like an issue that you should discuss in the Software Forum. I'm not sure what the exact problem or solution is. You may need to debug by stopping various items from loading to see if any are the cause. Also you could run in safe mode as a test to see if the problem still occurs. Based on info gathered from these tests, a next course of action could be chosen.

However, yes reinstalling you system is an option if you have the ability to backup what you need and then perform the reinstall.

I still could not run bitdefender but I ran blacklightbeta but it didn't find anything. (see log below) Should this thread be posted in the software section? If so, can you forward it? or can you guide me through the instructions you gave:

"You may need to debug by stopping various items from loading to see if any are the cause. Also you could run in safe mode as a test to see if the problem still occurs."

I will move this thread to the Software Forum, but you should still get the answers to what I have said.

    1. try booting in safe mode and see if you get Dr Watson errors
    2. if not, use MSconfig to selectively disable various startups and then reboot each time into normal mode to see if any of them are the cause of your problems
    3. Another item that should be checked is your event log
Some one in the Software Forum should have more time to guide you thru this since I'm way to busy here in the malware forum to work this.
