I am not sure what you mean by this. Are you:
    A. installing software FROM a flash drive?

    or

    B. Installing software ON TO a flash drive?

If option B, it is most likely the flash drive will not support installing programs on it. This is the drawback of flash drive media. If it was an external hard drive then it would do it, but installing programs is flash media's crux.

If option A, however, it could possibly be that sometime during the last installation or time the flash drive was in the computer, it was removed without warning and while active. This could give off the effect of having a Drive G that does not really exist. The computer says it should be there cause there indeed was a flash drive there before, but is mistaken that it is there now.

Also, do you have any virtual drive programs including ISO programs like MagicISO that create virtual disc drives? If so, then that could be a reason why you have a phantom G drive.

Some programs do add virtual drives, which in that case, you might want to post the program you added and hopefully we can better answer your question.

    thanks Zakal
i think drive G is as a result of a flash being removed whilst active.
