drive letters keep changing

I have win 98, pent3, 20mb hard drive,384 ram.

I have 4 external drives. An 80mb ext. hard drive,a 250mb zip, a 128mb mem stick, and a 128 mb pen drive. My problem is that almost every time I boot my machine, diffrent letters are assigned to the various drives. How can I remedy?

ill give a try, it maybe a master/slave problem, how many masters do you have?

 

If you are running your drives on cable select then set them to a master/slave configuration. This will keep the BIOS from making changes, it shouldn't, but with all the removable media you have there you might be throwing it for a loop. I imagine that your primary drive always remains C: and that just your pen drive and removable stuff changes. I can't see that there is much to do about it since Win98 wasn't very good with those devices. If you can then I would recommend the jump to XP, as it handles them very well and has support for flash drives and such built in.

 

Yes, my C & D drive remain constant. It's just the removables that change. Don't have any knowledge of how to tweak or adjust master/slave.

 

I leave my external drives plugged in--they still show up differently almost every time.
