Driver Booster & Bluetooth 4.0

I DL'd and ran Driver Booster\4.5.0. Everything worked great, I had about 20 out of date drivers, which were updated.

Well, of course, there's a fly in the ointment. Now my LG/USCelular flip phone and my HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC wont communicate via Bluetooth 4.0.

After hours of investigation and "fixes" I am still at square one. My phone is reading my puter but not the other way around and, I assume, that's why my pairing attempts have failed. Oh and yes, the phone was in discovery mode and the puter was in searching for and discoverable by devices mode.

I did a driver check on the Bluetooth and they're up to date and the best ones available...they're just not the right ones apparently.

    Any ideas people?

Use Driver Booster to roll back the Bluetooth to it's previous version (the one that worked) then, have Driver Booster ignore that device (If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.).

I can do this with the free version?

    Did it...didn't work. System restore?

You learned the hard way: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Very rarely do I EVER update a driver!

The only time I consider doing an update to a driver is if I have a problem. Then I first archive the old driver so I can grab it if the new driver doesn't fix the issue.
(In fact, my netbooks allowed me to burn a drivers disk to CD and I did before I really got into using the netbooks).

Go to HP's site for your model and get the bluetooth driver it has listed.
If it has more than one, grab all of them.

Well, the horse is out of the barn now but I'll remember that for next time. To be honest, between the Tweeking.com and Drive Boost 4 the puter was running great, like new again...except Bluetooth.

Did a couple of system restores, with AVG turned off and kept getting this... gcdyhjdtyjt.JPG
Which just figures...anyway, I'm going to HP now and try and find the drivers.

Next time my puter is running crappy, I'm just taking it in, these do-it-yourself programs are BS unless one is a techie...I am not.

...and, of course, HP says I'm to DL yet another program...their assistant, which I did and still haven't gotten to the drivers yet...why is this crap so damned difficult???

What is your exact full HP Pavilion model number. There are many versions of Pavilion 17.
You should find that on a sticker.
When you have the exact full model number go to HP support > Downloads & Drivers > look below the link for the support assistant, click on your Operating System, click ok and it will list, including downloads links, for all drivers for all parts including Bluetooth.

I used my serial number...DL'd then and same s#%t.
I was finally able to restore the system, apparently Malware bytes was stopping me. Now the phone and PC are paired & connected but when I try and send a pic from my phone is says check the status of the Bluetooth device. I give up...two days of this...I'm burnt...

Hey man, I want to say thank you for the assistance here, it is greatly appreciated.

Your phone. You were trying to send a photo from the phone to that notebook?
Was the message saying check the status of Bluetooth on that phone or the status on the device you were sending it to?

On the device I was sending it to...the PC

Unpair your phone and PC and then pair them.

I did, twice, and it shows they're connected and paired but when I try and send a pic from my phone to the PC I get this on my phone screen: "Check Bluetooth status of receiving device".

    Just an FYI...

I finally got the system to restore but it did no good with the Blue tooth issue. I then undated the driver myself from HP's site and it helped but not 100%. They are paired but when I try to send a pic it shows the transfer starting but then pukes out and I get the message on my phone; "Check Bluetooth status of receiving device". I'm done.

I then ran Tweeking.com Windows Repair and updated the drivers, but NOT the Bluetooth, and when all was set I uninstalled Driver Booster. The computer has never run better, it would be perfect if I can find the fly in the Bluetooth ointment but I am done, that I can live without.

    Thanks for all the assistance.

Wonder if it could be the PC's firewall settings? Try disconnecting from the internet and testing BT with the firewall disabled. BT was very inconsistent on this Thinkpad when running Win 7 but no problems now it's on Win 10.

I turned the router off and waited a few. Same message when attempting to send a pic.

I searched for my firewall and I can't do anything with it. Ref pic...

Turning the router off is just a safety measure to disconnect you from the internet before turning off the firewall. You need to turn off the Avast firewall on the PC to see if that is the reason you are unable to send pics to the PC but I cannot tell you how to turn off an Avast firewall as I don't use Avast.

OK, I didn't even know this was on my puter. Last time I checked it was window's firewall. Maybe this got piggybacked when I DL'd Tweeking.com Windows Repair or Drive Booster?

Goin' to the link now...see what this non-geek can do here...

Apparently I do not have Avast in my puter. Note in the pic above, the settings are being managed by Avast. FYI, I have AVG.

I type Avast in search and get nothing. I type firewall and get that page shown in the pic.

To add: Yeah, there's nothing Avast in programs and none of the settings work on the windows firewall page (note the pic again). Like I'm in limbo here...

I can only work with the info I'm given. Your PC states that the firewall is being managed by Avast but if you are certain it is AVG then you need to turn the AVG firewall off instead. Just google 'turn off AVG firewall'.

EDIT - plodr's post explains the Avast/AVG confusion but doesn't help in turning the firewall off. Try going into AVG settings and see if you can find the firewall switch.

Hey Earthling, I greatly appreciate the help...I didn't know Avast and AVG were the same. I'll look to turn off AVG firewall.

Remember to turn off the router or otherwise disconnect first

SOS, "Check Bluetooth status of receiving device"...

They find each other, pair, and connect. I stayed on the "Manage Bluetooth Devices" page while I tried to send a pic. A status bar popped up for my cell phone but disappeared right away. Then the message popped up on my phone. Weird aye?

I Googled "free download widcomm bluetooth software for windows 8.1" and a bunch of sites came up. I thought about DLing BT but I don't want to screw it up worse that it is. Now, all I'm out is the ability to send pics from my phone to my puter. I don't want to fire missiles ar Red China or worse!

Have you thought of taking the micro sd card with the photos on and connecting it to the computer with a USB drive?

    Good luck,

So is your post #25 after turning off the PC's firewall or have you decided not to pursue that path at all?

  32. kilogulf59

    kilogulf59 Corporal

After. I turned the router off, shut off the firewall, and turned Malwarebytes off to boot.

Not the firewall then. BT on this laptop was a nightmare until I upgraded it to Win 10. Been perfect since.

Just a thought - on this laptop I can't send any pics from my phone until I tell BT on the laptop to receive a file. Could your problem possibly be that simple?

What is your phone's model number?
You should find it in Settings > About Phone.

If it is, I can't find ANY settings, and I never had to before.

I have to click the tray icon and the Receive a file option is on the popup.

  37. kilogulf59

    kilogulf59 Corporal

Not an option here. Mine was completely automatic...send it from the phone and get a popup on the puter saying it just received a picture.

Well, it's official. I give up. I am done. The puter, aside from the Bluetooth issue, is running great and I'm not screwing with it.

I would like to thank everyone here who attempted to assist me in this matter.
