Driver Discs

Hey.

My friend is reformatting, but he doesn't have any discs except the XP disc.

How would I go about getting him Audio/Video/Network and other necessary drivers?

 

Any drivers which the stock O/S can't provide can be had by visiting the sites of the various hardware component vendors. ie; chipset drivers from the motherboard's site (ASUS, PC Chips, etc), video adapter (ATI, Nvidia, etc) and so on. If the video, sound, and NIC are 'onboard', the drivers for these can be found on the motherboard's site. Sometimes these are contained in the chipset drivers, and sometimes seperately.

 

And if it's manufactured, go to the manufacturer's site?

It's a very old computer, will you still be able to get drivers?

Yes, the manufacturers site should have the drivers for any original equipment which shipped with the system.

If it's old it may take a bit of looking around on the site, but usually the drivers for 'outdated/discontinued' systems can be found under the "Archived" or "Legacy" sections.

 

If your friends system meets the minimum requirements for XP, i have always found the OS to be a great provider of the necessary drivers.
